Three Cornwall businesses team up for a full foodie experience

Truro School Cookery has teamed up with The Alverton, Truro and Greenbank Hotel, Falmouth to provide a coastal or city foodie weekend break.

Visitors to Cornwall can have a truly immersive culinary experience with a new partnership that is designed to get people connecting with food, get creative and learn new skills, while enjoying the great food and artisan ingredients that Cornwall has to offer.

The two night break includes breakfast each morning and a three course dinner at either of the four star hotels, as well as a choice of one of Truro School Cookery’s weekend courses.

On Friday nights, visitors can experience ‘A Friday Night Is…’ at Truro School Cookery, an engaging dining experience where guests learn a new culinary skill before settling down to a evening of social dining.

Skills learned from former Rick Stein sous chef, AJ Turner include how to pan fry the perfect sirloin, roll the silkiest pasta or steam the tastiest mussels. The atmosphere is informal, fun, and hands-on.

On Saturdays, visitors can experience one of Truro School Cookery’s Feast Days: a packed, interactive day of cooking a three or four course meal that can then be taken back to the hotel and stored until the end of their stay. A perfect, hassle-free way to arrive home and have something tasty ready for dinner.

Maria Taylor, head of Truro School Cookery says: ‘Our courses are suitable for any ability and are about taking time out from a busy lifestyle to reconnect with cookery. Once you get home, you don’t even need to cook dinner; it’s all there for you to just pop in the oven or reheat.”

Guests of The Alverton, which is just a short walk from the cookery school, will also spend an evening sampling the delights from the hotel’s double AA rosette restaurant and bar, The Brasserie, a relaxing haven for guests overlooking the magnificent garden and terrace.

Head chef Simon George creates inspiring dishes from locally sourced ingredients including a ‘catch of the day’ seafood stew medley and his signature dish, ‘lamb three ways’.

For those choosing a coastal foodie retreat, there are few places that can compare with the view at The Greenbank’s Water’s Edge restaurant. A double AA rosette restaurant, it is situated on the banks of the Fal Estuary and has far reaching views across the water to the village of Flushing.

It is a place to relax and experience the finest local flavours from executive chef Nick Hodges, who was born in Falmouth and has worked with chefs such as Keith Floyd and Jean Christophe Novelli before heading back to his roots and home town.

The two night break for two people is available via The Alverton or Greenbank Hotel from £273 and includes two breakfasts, a three course evening meal and one course at Truro School Cookery.
